The Guatemalan Indigenous Inclusion in Media Toolkit

_edited.jpg

About Us

Due to the lack of representation of indigenous peoples in the mainstream media in Guatemala, a group of graduate students at The George Washington University created this toolkit to outline the reality of Guatemalan media systems and spark conversations for why and how to include indigenous voices.

Representation in the media is a powerful method of empowering marginalized communities. Indigenous communities in Latin America are among the most marginalized, underrepresented, and neglected groups in politics and media.

The Guatemalan Indigenous Inclusion in Media Toolkit serves to provide a baseline understanding of Guatemala, the challenges of indigenous inclusion in the media landscape, and resources to guide teams in the region on inclusion.
